Tom Cruise is getting closer to making history as the first actor to shoot a movie from outer space. The technology invested in the so-called “space tourism” advances every day and what seemed like Mission Impossible before, today could be a reality for the 60-year-old actor.
In May 2020, the POT confirmed that they were in talks with Cruise and SpaceX to start a film project that would mark a milestone in the industry, with the Hollywood veteran on board the International Space Station in a plot related to some of the famous actor’s action movies.
“We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine wrote at the time.
It is now known that the star of the blockbuster ‘Top Gun’ partnered with the director of The Bourne Identity, Doug Limanat the launch of a tape that involves filming in space for the next installment of the saga Mission Impossible. They both communicated with Universal Filmed Entertainment Group to present the proposal.
donna langleypresident of Universal Filmed, told the BBC that sending Cruise into space is one of the studio’s missions and shared more details about the project.
Langley revealed that Cruise and Liman, who previously worked together on “Edge of Tomorrow,” pitched the film during the pandemic. The story itself “actually takes place on earth, but then the character needs to go into space to save the day.”
“Tom Cruise is taking us into space. He is taking the world into space. That’s the plan,” Langley said.
The actor, who is known for perform his own action scenes himselfwithout stuntmen and with stunts that defy death, he proposed to forget the CGI technology which is usually used in space movies to carry out a more ambitious project.
Langley added that “is hopeful that Cruise will become ‘the first civilian to spacewalk outside the space station’However, it has not yet been clarified whether the actor will be able to leave the station or must remain inside the ship that takes him.
After these statements, the film still does not seem to be a fact, but everything indicates that its production phase could soon begin.
Similarly, the agency did not mention whether SpaceXthe aerospace company run by Elon Muskwill have a stake in the project, but Musk added to the news by replying to NASA’s tweet: “It’s going to be a lot of fun”wrote.
