With a premiere date already confirmed for season 4, ‘Stranger things’ once again becomes one of the series that is being talked about the most. Since its premiere in 2016, the series full of eighties winks has been one of Netflix’s flagship projects, turning its cast into stars, especially Millie Bobby Brown.
Since the beginning of the series, a series of rules have been established for the set, some of them really surprising.
No makeup
One of the requirements for the acting team is arrive on set with a clean facewithout any makeup. This is due to the fact that in the series special attention is paid to the artistic section and for this reason it is wanted to control in detail that the appearance of the characters corresponds to the eighties look of the time that is recreated.
However, this rule also has another cause: the Millie Bobby Brown came to the set one day with a face full of glitterwhich delayed the shooting of that day by about 45 minutes.
don’t cut your hair
Other important and vital element in the eighties look is the hair. This rule goes specifically for Joe Keery, the actor who plays Steve. The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, dubbed the character Steve “The Hair” Harrington and has become one of its most iconic elements. Maintaining it is something that the actor does not seem to require much effort, since it is his natural hair.
Bodies fit for the 80s
Another issue on which the series has shown unexpected sensitivity is the subject of physique. From the beginning, the Duffer brothers were very insistent that it was recreate another erain which the canon of beauty was much more “soft” that nowadays. Therefore, they have taken special care that the actors do not display an excessively slim or muscular build but more natural.
The best example of this is Dacre Montgomery (Billy in the series), who came from doing the latest version of ‘Power Rangers’, a role for which he had to lose weight. The Duffers told him that his physique was too stocky for the series, which was no problem for Montgomery to solve.
Watch out for scheduling issues
A common problem among actors is that several projects coincide at the same time, which ends up being exhausting or even leading to the abandonment of one of the two projects. Being a series as intense as Stranger Things, it is understandable that the actors must adapt to the agendas set by the same.
This was almost a problem for Finn Wolfhard (Mike), who signed earlier for ‘It’ and almost left out of ‘Stranger Things’ since both filming coincided. Luckily, ‘It’ suffered delays in the end and was able to arrange them without further complications.
Password?
About the precautionary measures to avoid leaksFrancesca Reale (Heather) told that Netflix uses passwords to protect screeners supplied to the actors. Thus, the cast members think twice before sharing their passwords because the origin of the leak would be known immediately.
Be careful with interviews.
Reale also talked about how nervous she felt not to say something inappropriate in interviews. As you see, Netflix is very careful not to advance more information about the story before the premiere of the seasons and why write down what they can and cannot say their actors in interviews.
mobiles out
For the same reason, the series team puts a lot of emphasis on make actors aware of their use of social networks. Considering the legions of followers they have, they have to be very careful about what they share and, in fact, they are not allowed to have cell phones on set (That way, they save things like the “Starbucks moment” from ‘Game of Thrones’).
Do not speak ill of your colleagues
To promote a pleasant atmosphere on set and to prevent false rumors from spreading, the entire series team has forbidden to criticize or make unpleasant comments about their colleagues in interviews or other media.
Be comfortable with eighties clothes
Although a priori it may not seem like a problem, there are certain quirks in 80s clothing that pose a challenge for the cast of actors. Joe Keery highlights the theme of Cowboys, since they are narrower and do not give much of themselves, unlike the stretch jeans of today. “They squeeze you in places you don’t expect” jokes the actor on the subject.
The first part of season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’ premieres on May 27 and the second on July 1, so we won’t have to wait long to find out the outcome of this story.
