At this point in the game we already know that if Rodrigo Sorogoyen is involved in a project, it is most likely that we are facing a movie (or series), at least interesting. He is the author of some of the most stimulating Spanish audiovisual works in recent years (‘El Reino’, ‘Antidisturbios’) and now we can see the teaser of his sixth film: ‘As bestas’.
I wish you would have woken up in another village
‘As bestas’ has been selected to be screened at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, an honor shared only with two other Spanish films, and it will be there that the natural landscape of El Bierzo and Galiciawhere this oppressive work about the conflicts in small towns has been filmed, which, surely, hides more than one secret.
These rural conflicts can already be sensed in the minute and a half that we have been able to see: Antoine and Olga are not well received among the people of the village, and it seems that the thing is going to end up like the Rosario de la Aurora. Two regulars of the Caesars, Marina Fois and Denis Menochetstar in ‘As bestas’ alongside the great Luis Zahera and Diego Anido.
ten days left until the lucky critics who are at the festival right now can see the first screening of ‘As bestas’. It will be on the 26th, and it will share nationality with ‘Bora Bora’, by Albert Serra, and ‘El agua’, by Elena López Sierra, three of the Spanish films on which to put the magnifying glass this year. The rest of us mortals will have to settle for waiting until autumn.
