On February 28, Disney released the official trailer for Peter Pan and Wendy in your format live action. In it we saw for the first time the characterization of Jude Law as Captain Hook.
In this adaptation, which tells the classic story of the island where children don’t have to grow up, its cast includes Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, and Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling, who By the way, he traveled from London, England, with his brothers to Neverland.
Although it is true that this movie has been awaited by fans for a long time, one of the things that most caught the attention of the trailer is the appearance of Tinker Bell, because due to her appearance, as in the case of Halle Bailey in The little Mermaid and Cynthia Erivo in pinocchioseveral users were outraged at the choice of the castsince they assure that Disney only seeks to make inclusion forced.
Of course, these opinions led to a debate on social networks, since they also made reference to the fact that in this adaptation changes were made to the physical appearance of several original characters, with the exception of Wendy and her brothers.
In the various opinions on Twitter we were able to read comments in which Internet users “rescued” that at least the characters retained their same gender, referring to the fact that there are now women within the group led by Peter Pan. Although in other comments we could read the questioning that the fans they do to Disney at their insistence on changing the appearance of the characters in their versions in live action, as the following:
‘Actually, it’s more racist to change the skin color of the characters’; ‘My only complaint is WHY ISN’T IT BLONDE?’; ‘First Ariel and then Tinkerbell, don’t f*ck me. Why do they want to force inclusion? Understand, there’s a reason they’re blond or redheaded, they don’t want to change everything’.
On the other hand, there are those who admitted that they prefer the version of PJ Hogan starring Jeremy Sumpter and Rachel Hurd-Wood. In addition, there were also those who consider that there are already many versions of this classic, so one more adaptation seemed unnecessary.
However, to convince ourselves if retaking this story was a good idea or not, we will have to wait for its premiere on April 28 in theaters.
