Darren Aronofsky returns to the cinema since ‘Mother!’, his last film in 2017. He does so with ‘The Whale’, produced by A24 and starring an unrecognizable Brendan Fraser.

‘The Whale’ is Aronofsky’s new drama, which will premiere at the next edition of the Venice International Film Festival. Fraser will play a 600-pound obese man trying to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter.. The actor spoke at the time about how this film was going to “be something that hasn’t been seen before” and “will make a lasting impression.”
A24 has shared a first image of the tape, where the physical change is observed that the actor has experienced for this project. The production company will also premiere in Venice ‘Pearl’, the new Ti West, and ‘The eternal Daughter’, starring Tilda Swinton.

This will be Brendan Fraser’s first leading role in cinema since ‘Desperate Escape’ in 2013, after a time away from the industry. Fraser is slowly coming back, recently as a supporting player in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘No Sudden Moves’ and with projects powerful premiere pending, such as ‘Killers of the flower moon’the new Scorsese for Apple, or the antagonist of the ‘Batgirl’ that prepares HBO Max.
The script is in charge of Samuel D. Hunter (‘Baskets’) and the cast completes it Sadie Sink (‘Stranger Things’), Samantha Morton (‘The Walking Dead’), Hong Chau (‘Watchmen’) and Ty Simpkins (‘Iron Man 3’).
‘The Whale’ doesn’t have a release date yet, but will be exhibited for the first time at the Venice Film Festivalfrom August 31 to September 10, along with other long-awaited premieres such as ‘Bones and all’ (Luca Guadagnino), ‘Don’t worry darling’ (Olivia Wilde) or ‘White noise’ (Noah Baumbach).
