With 37 Emmy Awards, including five in a row for Best Comedy, ‘Frasier’ is undoubtedly one of the best series ever. But it seems that eleven seasons and 264 episodes seem few to tell the comic life of Dr. Crane and we will soon have a new sequel series produced by Paramount +.
Thus, with the production of the series approaching, we are going to review everything we know about this new ‘Frasier’, still without an official title.
The history
Little is known about the plot of this new series starring Dr. Frasier Crane. We do know, from statements here and there by Kelsey Grammer, that we will have a new life for the psychologist in a new city. However, this geographic change does not mean that we will have a changed Frasier.
In Grammer’s own words:
“In a really fun way, it just took us to a new place, which was what we originally wanted to do anyway, a Frasier third act. It’s a whole new life for him. We’ll certainly respond to the fact that he has a brother and such, the new world for Frasier is one of new friendships, and some new twists and turns that he didn’t know were still there.”
If we look at the descriptions of the characters, which we are knowing little by little, it follows that one of the settings for this new season will be a university. Does Frasier become dean or chancellor of any college? We will know soon.
The cast
Here we take a little jug of cold water since, removing Kelsey Grammer, we will not see the rest of the main cast of the series. The most notable absence is that of david hyde pierce like Niles Crane, the brother of our protagonist.
Of course, although it will not be in the series, it is not ruled out that it can participate as a guest star. Another notable absence, although this time due to her sad death, is that of John Mahoney, who played the father. Grammer assures that he wants to do a small tribute:
“It’s our brave little soldier going on in life, finding new challenges, new love, new people, a new city and things like that. I’m really, really excited about it, and certainly we’ll always honor his past. We have to honor the fact that John Mahoney died and is no longer with us. We’ll take care of that for sure. We start rehearsals in February.”
Those who will be will be Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan Cornwall, Frasier’s former college friend who is now a somewhat mischievous and drunken professor; Jack Cutmore-Scott like Freddy Crane, Frasier’s son, who dropped out of college to be a firefighter; anders keith as David, the son of Niles and Daphne, who is a freshman in college; Y Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy’s roommate.
The filming
There is no date for the shoot yet. of the new ‘Frasier’, but everything indicates that it will be produced in the coming weeks, since rehearsals were scheduled to begin this month of February,
The script is in charge of Chris Harris (‘How I Met Your Mother’) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces).
the release date
for now, release date unknown of ‘Frasier’ on Paramount+. Although we do not rule out that it could arrive this same 2023 (depending on the shooting, but it should not be very long), I think it is safer that we will not see it until 2024.
