A little over a year ago we immersed ourselves in the beautiful sands of Arrakis to enjoy ‘Dune’, the new adaptation of the novel by Frank Herbert, this time by Denis Villeneuve. We soon learned that it was not going to be the only project about this universe, but that a series that would serve as a prequel was also being developed.
A) Yes, HBO Max is already preparing ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ (project title), a series set ten thousand years before the events of the film and we are going to review everything we know about it.
The history
As we have already said, it is a prequel that will explore what this galaxy was like ten thousand years before the events of the film. The plot of the series is inspired in the novels by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Andersonwho developed this remote past, specifically the title alludes to ‘The Sisterhood of Dunand’.
According to the official synopsis revealed so far, the series will explore this universe through the eyes of a mysterious order of women, the Bene Gesseritwhose extraordinary mastery of body and mind allows them to navigate through the politics and feudal intrigues of the Empire.
The presence of the Harkonnen sisters is importantsince they have a crusade (basically an order) to end the Atreides bloodline in revenge.

The information tells us that we are in the years in which the Bene Gesserit was known as The Brotherhood and the presence of Valya and Tula Harkonnen in the novels place us in the days of the galactic civil war (year more, year less). However, the ages of the actresses chosen to play them do not fit with the timeline—Valya is supposed to be just 25 when she becomes Mother Superior—or, at least, with the most important events in her lives.
here then exists or the option to “make” the older characters for the occasion or that, in reality, we find that the plot is years after what we have been led to believe. There is a third option and that is that they have younger versions to portray the past and future of the order.
The cast

Emily Watson (‘Chernobyl’) and Shirley Henderson (‘Harry Potter’) lead the main cast as Valya and Tula Harkonnen. Another star cast is Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, a soldier with an enigmatic past who has earned the Emperor’s trust.
Indira Varma as Empress Natalya, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez, Shalom Brune Franklin as Mikaela, Faoileann Cunningham like sister jenAoife Hinds as sister emeline and Chloe Leah like lilac.
The filming
After a time delay, Johan Renck announced on his Instagram the start of filming in Budapest for ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’. What we don’t know is how long this production will takewhich seems not easy.
On the other hand, getting here has brought more than one problem, or headache, for Legendary and Warner Bros. since first Denis Villeneuve got off the project as the director who was going to be the series. His substitute is found in Johan Renck, to whom we owe ‘Chernobyl’.
And as soon as filming began, we learned that the co-creator of the series, Diane Ademu-John, was leaving her position as showrunner of the series, leaving her creative work. in the hands of Alison Schapker (‘Altered Carbon’).
the release date
At the moment, we do not know the release date of this series. Yes, the original plans are to release in 2023, coinciding (or rather, approaching) with the premiere of ‘Dune. Part 2’.
