The little horns come back. Four years after we saw the end of ‘Daredevil’ on Netflix and after insistent rumors and requests for a return, Marvel has confirmed a new series for the superhero played by Charlie Cox.
We will see it on Disney +, It will be titled ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ And we are going to review everything we know about this promising maxiseries?
The history
The title of the series already tells us, at least, the inspiration that this new adventure will have. Of course, here we have a bit of a mess because season 3 of ‘Daredevil’ I already had enough elements of ‘Born Again’the masterpiece of Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli. However, it is possible that, as on other occasions, they use the catchy title to tell another story.
The comic starts with a Karen Page resigned to acting in pornographic films in Mexico and hooked on drugs who, desperate, sells information in exchange for a spike of heroin. Specifically, the identity of Daredevil, which reaches the ears of Wilson Fisk.
Kingpin will start then an insidious campaign to destroy his rival without touching a hair: with his influence he makes the treasury freeze his bank accounts, makes a policeman give false testimony against the lawyer, etc. Soon we would find ourselves with a homeless, paranoid and mentally unstable Matt Murdock.
The final plot of the saga involved an escalation in which the Kingpin convinced Nuke to finish off the hero. We have seen Nuke (or at least features of it) in ‘Jessica Jones’ as Will Simpson (Wil Traval) and part of the plot executed by him in the comics is made by the future Bullseye in the series.
Although there is some doubt about whether ‘Daredevil’ and company are canonical -in my point of view yes, since they were created to be part of the MCU and nobody has said since then that they are not-, it would be strange to do a reboot / remake regardless of it, because it is probably the most iconic series and character of the entire Netflix affair.
What could be done is to mix elements of this Born Again with those of later sagas that play with similar elements. It comes to my head more than the stage of Miller, that of Ann Nocenti and John Romita Jr., with sagas like that of Typhoid Mary or the final arc (illustrated by Lee Weeks), with a disoriented and broken Murdock who returns from his self-exile (after going through Mephisto’s hell) without really knowing who he is.
The road to ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
Although it will take a while to see the series, Daredevil we will continue to see him in the coming months through various appearances. At the moment, after her cameo in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, we know that she will appear in ‘She-Hulk: Lawyer She-Hulk’ and alongside Wilson Fisk she will have a prominent role in ‘Echo’. We have seen the latter in ‘Hawk’s Eye’.
The presence of Charlie Cox giving voice to his character in ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’, the animated series that will cover the life of Peter Parker as a rookie Spidey, has also been confirmed.
The cast and crew
At the moment, the only thing that seems to be confirmed is the presence of charlie cox like Matt Murdock/Daredevil and that of Vincent D’Onofrio like Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. From here, we could expect the presence of Deborah Ann Woll like Karen and elden henson Like Fogy Nelson.
Matt Corman and Chris Ord co-creators of ‘Covert Affairs’, are responsible for this reboot, which will have 18 episodes. What they do not clarify for us is if we will see it in several batches or at once.
The filming
To this day, there is no information about the filming of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’.
