When ‘Paranormal’ debuted on Netflix in 2020, it rocketed to the top of the most-watched list in Egypt, not just because it was the first Egyptian original series on the platform, but because several generations grew up reading Ahmed Khaled Tawfik’s pocket horror and science fiction novels on which the series is based, taking several of those stories from the page to the screen for the first time, however, season 2 is taking time to wait. This is what we know.
The history
The Netflix original series is based on the best-selling horror novels written by the late Tawfik. The plot centers on Refaat Ismail (Ahmed Amin), a cynical hematologist with a dark sense of humor, whose world is turned upside down when his lifelong scientific convictions are called into question. The series began in 1969 when Refaat enters his 40s and begins to experience a series of paranormal activities, but there are eighty-one installments that can be adapted.
As his series of paperback novels became popular in Egypt, Tawfik’s protagonist traveled more abroad. Later books see Ismail visit East Asia, Europe, and even a parallel universe, but it’s unlikely that the second season will get that far into the hematologist’s story.
What to expect from Season 2
The Netflix series’ signature combination of traditional tale, legend and horror will return, but it is likely that some of Tawfik’s recurring creatures will appear at some point in the books that have not yet made an appearance, such as the vampires, which would make sense since the main character is a hematologist. The first season was based on elements from the book, ‘The Legend of the House’, which is the twelfth installment of the series and coincides with the season finale.

It is likely that another story will do the same nexus role in a second season. Judging by the cliffhanger, it will be that of Ismail’s elegant Tarot colleague Louis (Karim El Hakim), who promises in a letter written to Ismail and read at the end of the season, ‘no more games’. The narrative will likely continue to focus on the relationship between the protagonist and his former but now uncertain love interest Maggie (Razane Jammal).

The Legend of the Lake Monster
Ismail may be traveling abroad to visit Maggie in Scotland, where he could meet another creature familiar to many onlookers at loch ness, a story straight from the pages of the third installment in the book series, ‘The Legend of the Lake Monster’. There are many books still intact to rescue plots.
Director
The director is amr salama, who said during an interview on the ‘Akher An-Nahar’ program of the ‘Al-Nahar’ channel, that he promised the writer Ahmed Khaled Tawfik to turn ‘Ma Waraa al-Tabea’ into a series.
“I wrote a message to Ahmed Khaled Tawfik and told him that I was a young director who dreamed of turning the novel into a drama… and he welcomed the idea without knowing me before. Over the years, Ahmed Khaled Tawfik became a friend, a teacher, a spiritual father and a true guide. We met once or twice a year and worked on the series, until our personal relationship developed a lot and became an important human relationship, and his death before the series was the cause of one of my greatest pains.”
When it premieres?
‘Paranormal’ brought Tawfik, often called the father of Arabic sci-fi, to his widest audience yet and we know season two is in the works, but the surprise is that will not air on Netflix, according to Has revealed Director Amr Salama. There is no estimated release date, but it is known that it is underway.
Cast and protagonists
Egyptian actor Ahmed Amin, the star of the seriesis the essence of ‘Paranormal’, his return is to be expected as he has proudly noted that his series is among the highest rated drama series on IMDB website at 180th with a rating of 8.5.
