‘The Shining’ with Jim Carrey, but without deepfake
Kwan revealed that the directing duo were contacted by the franchise’s star, Jim Carrey to shoot a comedy horror film on the making of the 2014 sequel film. According to Kwan, Carrey’s interest in found footage projects was sparked when he saw ‘Paranormal Activity’ (2007) and wanted to do a piece that would follow the cast and crew of ‘Dumber Even Dumber’ as they filmed parts at the Hotel. Kwan remembers that it was a very early time in their careers, so they strongly agreed and they told him:
“Okay, we’re in. This is amazing. We wrote a full outline and we were really excited, but after meeting with a producer, the idea was quickly scrapped because he said there was no way the studio would let us make a different movie. while the cameras rolled ‘Dumber Even Dumber'”.
