One of the things that ‘The Last of Us’ is doing best is introducing details that anticipate events to come, but in ‘Family’, the sixth episode of the HBO series, they have gone a step further to introduce an easter egg on the already confirmed second season of the series that only some fans of the video game have detected.
The mysterious girl who stares
Beware of possible spoilers from here
The moment in question happens in the 20th minute of ‘Family’, when Joel and Ellie are enjoying a good meal under the watchful eye of Tommy and Maria. At a certain point, Ellie notices that another young woman is watching her from a distance, she becomes annoyed and basically scares away a character who is later credited simply as “staring girl“. However, everything indicates that her real name is Dina.
Dina is a very important character in ‘The Last of Us 2’, to the point of being the co-star of the video game and also Ellie’s love interest. And it was not by chance that Bella Ramsey recently highlighted that the second season was going to be quite faithful to the original work, giving the feeling that she herself knew that the character’s first appearance was just around the corner.
It is true that they are only a few seconds, but the look of the character is very similar, as is the physical appearance of the actress chosen for the occasion. The unknown woman paolina van kleef is in charge of giving life to this “staring girl“and that has set off all the alarm bells for lovers of the original video game.
There is another detail that makes it quite clear that it is about Dina and we found it in the original podcast of the series. In the 17th minute of the last installment, Neil Druckman hints that it is an intentional easter egg, although craig mazin he prefers to leave it as something ambiguous. However, Druckmann later points out that in ‘The Last of Us 2’ there is a story about the first time Ellie and Dina meet that sounds a lot like what happens in ‘Family’, although Mazin is quick to point out the following:
That does not mean that it is Dina, but it does not mean that it is not.
Everything indicates that they simply do not want to confirm it clearly for now, perhaps because of the possibility of a change of actress? I’m sure it won’t take us long to find out -although it gives me that at least we won’t have to wait until the end of this first season-, but when the river sounds, it is that water carries…
