At the gates of the weekend we want to propose a plan of those that you will surely not regret just over 250 km from Madrid: visit Albacete. For this reason, we want to take you on a tour of some of the most significant points in the city (without prejudice to the fact that there is much more to see) that will allow you to say that you know it thoroughly in the same way that we have done with other cities such as Palencia, Soria, Teruel, Cuenca…
So, then we leave you eleven wonderful enclaves of Albacete which is worth visiting.
Cathedral
We start with the first stop at the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista is one of the most emblematic constructions of the city with a mix of styles is very significant and where we can not stop admiring the Chapel of the Virgin of Los Llanos (patron saint of the city).
Cabot Jubany House
Located on Calle Ancha in Albacete is the Cabot Jubany House, with its blue dome is the largest architectural showcase of the city. It was a work carried out by Miguel Ortiz e Iribas commissioned by José Cabot Jubany, former mayor of the city and from whom it took its name.
Bullring
Even if we are not fans of bullfighting, it is worth seeing the Plaza de Todo in the city, which was completed in 1916, adorned with neo-Muslim style details and pointed arches that make it a super striking ensemble.
Deposito del Sol Library
Be very, very careful with the Albacete Library because it is the second largest in all of Castilla La Mancha and it is outrageous, in addition to being the headquarters of the Public Network of Municipal Libraries of Albacete. Of course, a look inside must be given.
Lodares Passage
You are walking down Calle Mayor (or Calle Tinte, depending on whether you take one or the other) and ending up in this passage is almost magical. It is an authentic architectural monument where they have been designed by Buenaventura Ferrando Castell to be a commercial and residential gallery at the same time of modernist style, using for the construction of its roof iron and glass that support Renaissance columns, with evocative neo-baroque and modernist decorations.
Deputation
Another essential in the city of La Mancha is the Diputación building, which is actually a Palace, built with ashlar, marble, jasper and pine floorboards. On its façade there are some coats of arms of towns in the province, and inside the superb Empire-style staircase and the session hall stand out.
Cultural Center of the Assumption
The next of our stops will be at this Cultural Center that is located in the old Monastery of the Incarnation inside which we find a beautiful patio surrounded by galleries and columns that houses the Institute of Albacete Studies.
flour factory
This building is another of the mythical of the city since it housed one of the most significant industries in the city. It is currently the seat of the Regional Government in Albacete where we can visit exhibitions, attend conferences and cultural activities of all kinds surrounded by gardens.
Municipal Museum of cutlery
Let’s see, to be honest, we know Albacete as the land of knives, so you couldn’t miss the Cutlery Museum, which houses the largest collection of knives, razors and scissors that can be visited in Spain. This located in the House of Hortelano, a small palace from the beginning of the 20th century, very close to the cathedral. So we can’t miss it.
National Museum
Although if we talk about Museums of Albacete, we cannot miss the Nacional where the old town hall building was located and which today offers temporary exhibitions and shows about the city.
Gran Hotel and monument to the Cuchillero
And we continue with a two for one such as the building of the Grand Hotel (where we can stay for about 100 euros a night) which, right in the Plaza del Altozano (where the National Museum is also) we find the statue of the Cuchillero that is emblematic.
Fairgrounds
And while we’re at it, we’re going to the fair, but not anywhere, but to the Fairgrounds which is also known as The pan either The roundels, which is one of those constructions that leaves you speechless and that well deserves to have been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, making it one of the symbols of the city. If you want to take advantage, the famous Albacete Fair is in September.
