A new film in the ‘Shrek’ franchise has taken 11 years to arrive: ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ was last year’s animated surprise, with a 2023 Oscar nomination included. Seeing the good reception it has had, would it be possible to see more ‘Shrek’ movies in the future? so you expect eddy murphy, that he would be delighted to play Donkey again.

It seems like yesterday but It’s been 23 years since ‘Shrek’ came out., that funny revision of the classic fairy tales starring a grumpy green ogre and his talkative partner Donkey. It was also the first film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Film (before, the category did not exist).
Since then, the film became a franchise adding a total of four films, the spin-off of ‘Puss in Boots’ and its sequel, video games and specials. Yes ok ‘Shrek 5’ has been on the table for yearshardly any more news about the project has been released since then.
Eddie Murphy has stated in a recent interview that he would be delighted to play Donkey again, be it in that hypothetical fifth installment or starring in his own spin-off:
I would definitely be open if they offered me another ‘Shrek’ movie, I would accept in two seconds. I love Donkey (…) They made the ‘Puss in Boots’ movies and I thought: “They should have made a Donkey movie. Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I love Puss in Boots.” Boots, but it’s not as funny as Donkey.”
Murphy added that the possibility to resume the character totally depends on DreamWorks and affirmed that he is prepared to put Donkey’s voice back when required. This enthusiasm is also shared by Mike Myers (the voice of Shrek in English), who recently declared that he “would love to do one Shrek a year.”
We don’t know if one day ‘Shrek 5’ will be a reality (or if we want that to happen, given the gap between the first two films and the third and fourth) but it seems that the idea is not that far away considering that the film itself Antonio Banderasduring the promotion of the second of ‘Puss in Boots’, was shown pretty sure there will be a fifth movie from the animated saga.
