Percy Jackson and the Olympians is coming to Disney+ next year. Now, the platform gives very good news about its launch.
In a post on his personal web pagethe creator of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Rick Riordanshared an important update on when we will be able to see the long-awaited adaptation of Disney+. An adaptation that has raised a lot of expectations among his followers.
the creator of Percy Jackson he wanted to make sure that everyone knows that the comments he makes on his blog are personal conjecture. That is, they are not statements or information from the studio or even from the Disney+ services. However, Rick Riordan has an obvious connection to this project.
“As always: Please note that the comments on this blog are my best guesses. They should not be taken as official words of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the studio, or the Disney+ streaming service. I’m just doing my best to give you guys a glimpse of the process and how it feels to me after first participating in a TV release.”
When will the series be released in the streaming catalog?
Rick Riordan pointed out that originally Percy Jackson and the Olympians It was going to be released sometime in 2023 on the Disney+ platform. However, that period is probably not realistic. What is the reason for this? Well… There are many different elements in the process that we need to attend to. For example, the eight months of filming, post-production, VFX, subtitles, dubbing… And there are still other elements that we are not even aware of.
“When will the Percy Jackson series premiere on Disney+? I heard there have been some very unrealistic dates popping up on social media. So here I am to temper your expectations. Earlier, I said that my personal best estimate was sometime in 2023. I also warned you that this could definitely change. Now that I have a better understanding of the work, here’s what I estimate: It will probably take us until December or January to shoot all the episodes of the first season. This is roughly a month per episode. […] Post-production will begin in early 2023, when the pieces start to assemble, edit and augment all the digital effects and work on the sound. This process also takes months and months of work, and that’s not counting subtitles and dubbing into other languages for international viewers. That requires an army of people.”
This is the date estimated by Rick Riordan, creator of the saga
With all this in mind, Rick Riordan believes that the premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will arrive on Disney + in early 2024. It will compete within the catalog with the projects of Marvel Studios, Fox TV, starwars, pixar and many more.
“Given all of this, I think the most likely air date will be early 2024. Again, just a guess. Actual release dates are determined by the studio and streaming service, and must take into account hundreds of other factors such as the release schedule of all shows, advertising, etc.
Until 2024 there is still a long way to go and the wait will be quite long. While Rick Riordan agrees that it’s a lot, he highlighted the two and a half years that went by behind every scene of Percy Jackson and the Olympians for the Disney+ series to get off the ground. And they also waited more than 15 years to have a proper adaptation. Thus, the wait seems to be worth it and we will have a high-quality product, as we are already getting used to. The Mandalorian and company.
“Is it a long wait? Yes it is. On the other hand, we spent two and a half years working behind the scenes to get this series off the ground. I have been waiting more than fifteen years to achieve a proper adaptation. So… I think we can wait a bit longer, if that means getting the show to the quality that we’ll be proud of. Another thing I’ve said before, but bears repeating: this program is the most ambitious project any of us have done to date. Even for our experienced team members. There are a lot of scenarios, complex visual effects, young actors leading the series. All of that takes time. But the reward will be worth it. I am completely sure of that.”
