Detective Comics #27: Batman, the Batman, Arrives in Gotham City
By Robert Greenberger
With the success of Superman in Action Comicsthe editor Vin Sullivan the search for more heroes in disguise began. he asked Bob Kane, a constant contributor to comic strips, if you’d like to create your own costumed character. The teenage artist, hungry for more presence, was determined to ditch his cartoonish drawing style and create a more adventurous one.
In search of ideas, he began to piece together various influences and shape them into a new character. This would be darker and powerless, allowing kane it would be easier to identify with him. The hero would use gadgets instead of powers, including bat-like wings in the manner of a glider.

DC Comics
By sharing these ideas with the writer Bill Finger, kane quickly gathered the basic elements of the “Bat Man”. fingers made some suggestions that would make the character an icon that could rival Supermanand that would ultimately help make him an immortal figure as well.
Among this was giving a new shape to the wings resembling a cape, as well as the use of gloves and a hood that covered his face. This Batman was indebted to Superman as with the dark pulp heroes of that era. TO Sullivan liked the somber tone, and felt it fit the title better detective comicsand that’s how he bought the first story.

Over time, the other short stories faded away, though avenger he proved more resilient, trading his cape for one-piece underwear in just two years.
