DC has just given another of those strange swerves typical of this studio when it comes to establishing continuity within its superhero movies. His new and unexpected decision has been to make it official that the Superman of Christopher Reeve and the Batman of michael keaton They are part of the same universe. There have been many fans who have already expressed their disagreement with it and have even pointed out why it is not possible.
DC’s announcement has arrived via the comic’Dark Crisis: Big Bang’, in which it is revealed that Barry Allen has taken notes on different Earths in the Multiverse, including the following mention of Earth 789:
“Superman and Supergirl are the only heroes with powers on Earth. Batman’s parents were killed by the Joker (Superman ’78, Batman ’89)”
Because ‘Supergirl’ was connected to ‘Superman’ from Richard Donner We already knew it, but until now there was no confirmation of his ties to the ‘Batman’ of Tim Burton. Surely more than one of the first things they thought about is a possible digital resurrection of Reeve in a future DC project, but many have been quick to make it clear that this doesn’t make much sense.
Does not fit
In a Reddit thread they highlight that this fact does not fit not at all with the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover of the Arrowverso, only opening the door to the possibility that they refer to the ‘Superman 1978’ and ‘Batman 1989’ comics. The first is an alternative sequel to Donner’s film, while the second works as a sequel to ‘Batman Returns’.
The problem worsens when we take into account that ‘Batman Returns’ is supposed to be going through four different sequels -the other three are ‘Batman Forever’, the aforementioned crossover ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ and the still pending release ‘The Flash’- without there being any kind of connection between them. A tremendous mess.
