Not all Star Wars theories work out well. In fact, Dave Filoni disagrees with this Darth Vader-related theory.
In an interview given to Vanity Fair, Dave Philoni has explained why he thinks fans have exaggerated the previous reputation of boba fett. He also talked about this Jon Favreau Recently. Regarding Boba Fett’s interactions with Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back (1980), the creator of Ahsoka Tano recalled the events and reminded fans of starwars that does not capture Han Solobut simply call sith lord for him to do it. That defines very well the cautious and reserved nature of the antihero played by Temuera Morrison.
“Boba Fett calls on Darth Vader to capture Han Solo,” Dave Filoni explained of the character’s nature. “It’s not Boba Fett who captures Han Solo. He just picks up the phone and says, ‘Hey, Sith Lord, come over here and get Han Solo. I’ve found him’». The truth is that the filmmaker is right…
“I was not disappointed when he fell into the Sarlacc pit,” he said.
As for the fan theory that Boba Fett could challenge Darth Vader, Dave Filoni says he never believed that hype. That’s why he wasn’t disappointed when the bounty hunter fell into the pit. Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi (1983). After all, the story is not about him.
“It’s funny to hear people say that Boba Fett could take on Darth Vader,” Dave Filoni joked. “Really? They just hired him. I adore Boba Fett, but even when I was a kid the idea of her falling into the Sarlacc pit never disappointed me. I just thought this was not his story.”
“Boba Fett means a lot of things to a lot of characters,” Dave Filoni argued about it. “I grew up with Boba Fett believing her to be a quiet, mysterious, faceless bounty hunter. All we know about him is that he was threatening enough that Darth Vader saw him as qualified to go after Han Solo. Then when you get to the second movie that Boba Fett appears in, Return of the Jedi, you see a different version of the character. They throw him into the Sarlacc pit and he dies. I think people were quick to assume that I should have lasted longer in that situation.”
