Burberry’s was the most anticipated of the nearly 50 London Fashion Week shows.
Fashion lovers got a glimpse of Burberry’s new offerings following the departure of creative director Riccardo Tisci in September.
For his first collection, Lee, 37, who left Bottega Veneta to become the British brand’s creative director in October 2022, brought back the house’s classics, which Tisci had moved away from.
Around 500 guests attended the event under a marquee in Kennington Park, south London, in a warm atmosphere “inspired by Burberry marquees of the late 19th and early 20th centuries,” the luxury house said in a statement.
In a mountain chalet setting, the models paraded with hot water bottles in hand and rubber boots on their feet.
The brand’s iconic check pattern appeared in different colors on jumpers, trench coats, trousers and skirts. The rose, a symbol of England and Lee’s home county of Yorkshire, appeared on several garments.
Burberry’s historic logo, depicting a horseman with a spear and armor, also made its big comeback, having been dropped by Tisci in 2018.
Unlike her predecessor, Lee presented few extravagant evening wear, save for two off-the-shoulder gowns.
At the end of the show, Lee was greeted by an audience that included model Naomi Campbell, Vogue magazine doyen Anna Wintour and British singers Damon Albarn and Stormzy.
It was Burberry’s first physical show at London Fashion Week since 2019 after several editions disrupted by the pandemic and the previous edition was largely put on hold because it was scheduled just after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 of September.
