If you are one of those staunch fans of ‘Star Wars’ who does not hesitate to get between his chest and back each and every one of the productions, whether film or television, that the people of Lucasfilm serve us on a platter — silver or, sometimes made of plastic—there is no doubt that you are in luck. And it is that the galactic saga continues to sow its future with more and more productions.
Although Patty Jenkins’ ‘Rogue Squadron’ has ended up being discarded, over the next few years we will have series like ‘The Acolyte’, mysterious feature films like the one being prepared by Taika Waititi and, hopefully, the promised —and dreamed of by many— Rian trilogy Johnson. But this is not all, because the people of Deadline just confirmed the commissioning of a long-rumored new movie.
More wood!
None other than Damon Lindelof, responsible for hits like ‘Lost’ or HBO’s impeccable ‘Watchmen’, will be in charge of taking us back to our favorite galaxy far, far away as co-writerbeing his writing partner a mystery as great as the plot, characters and time frame that the film will explore.
But this is not all, because the source informs of the importance for the study and Lindelof himself to find as soon as possible a – or a – filmmaker who is in charge of the direction and who includes his vision during the writing process. The chosen one, finally, has been Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the Pakistani-born director who has signed two episodes of ‘Ms. Marvel’ for Marvel Studios and double Oscar winner for the best documentary short film in 2012 and 2016.
At the moment, Lindelof and Obaid-Chinoy’s ‘Star Wars’ is immersed in her writing process, so it is impossible to discern what its approximate release date will be. However, the fact that LucasFilm has been so focused on awarding the director’s seat so quickly invites us to think that it is one of the best positioned titles to debut in the short or medium term.
