‘Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse’ has finally been released and has been going strong with a thunderous box office success and its more than 200 spider-men. We still have to wait a few more months until the second part, and since the wait is going to be longer than a day without bread, at least what we practically have on us is a manga spin-off straight from shonen jump.
My Spider-Man Academy
It is not the first time that American superheroes have turned to manga (nor will it be the only one), and although in the first ‘Spider-Man: A New Universe’ we already had Peni Parker, this time we are going to explore another little corner of the multiverse. This specific spin-off will be called ‘Spider-Man: Octopus Girl’ and will be focused on Otto Octavius…who has been reincarnated as a Japanese high school student named Otoha Okumatiya.
So putting into the blender a good isekai manga base with touches of ‘Superior Spider-Man’ we arrive at this new spin-off. In order not to get out of the superhero genre, those in charge of ‘Spider-Man: Octopus Girl’ are Hideyuki Furuhashi and Koto Bettewho have already worked together on the spin-off ‘Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals’ for the ‘Boku no Hero Academia’ series.
It remains to be seen what the adventures at the Otoha institute are like (and if she decides to go back to being a supervillain as in her previous life), because not much more of the manga has been seen than a first image.
‘Spider-Man: Octopus Girl’ will start publishing next June 20th in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ magazine, so we can read it for free through Manga Plus, where the publisher’s manga are updated every week.
