Ronaldo, now free of contract, was accused of “violent and inappropriate” behavior by the FA for hitting the hand of a 14-year-old fan after Manchester United’s defeat against Everton (1-0) on April 9 at Goodison Park.
Portugal’s star attacker and five-time Ballon d’Or winner, 37, he threw a young man’s phone on the groundfor which he had to give explanations to the local Liverpool police.
Ronaldo apologized that same night on his Instagram account. He later admitted that he had engaged in inappropriate and violent behavior in a video conference appearance in early November, but explained that he “feared for his personal safety” as he left the pitch where Everton supporters had gathered.
The suspension decided by the FA Independent Disciplinary Commission will apply to the club and the championshipwhatever the country of the team that CR7 will join after the World Cup, since he reached an agreement with Manchester United on Tuesday to terminate his contract.
Ronaldo will probably debut on Thursday against Ghana in the World Cup in Qatar. The sanction does not apply to international team matches.
