A couple wanted to enjoy a delicious drink, so they went straight to a Starbucks to buy a couple of coffees, but ended up facing a bitter experience that ruined even their planned vacation.
According to various American media outlets, days after making this purchase, the spouses realized that their credit card had an insufficient balance. When they contacted the bank, they were informed that Starbucks charged them for more than four thousand dollars.
Surely, Jesse and Deedee O’Dell will no longer consume the famous drinks offered by the company with the logo of a mermaid with two tails, because after going to one of its branches in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the United States, by mistake they they charged $4444 in tip when they paid with their credit card.
However, the spouses realized this situation days later when they were shopping with their children and their card was rejected. Upon speaking to the bank, they found out about the incredible charge Starbucks charged them and immediately contacted the company to get the issue resolved.
The Starbucks district manager admitted the error and assured them that they would send them a couple of checks to cover the amount of the erroneous charge, but unbelievably, the checks they received were bad. It was then that his ordeal to get his money back began. In interview for McClatchy NewsJesse O’Dell recounted his ordeal:
We contacted their consumer service help line probably 30-40 times that day. They assured us that they were sending new checks.
After repeated attempts to get their money back, the O’Dells chose to file a complaint with the local police department. Finally, the couple received new checks that they were able to cash, but what they could not save were their vacations, since they did not have enough money to pay for them.
My wife is originally from Thailand and grew up in the United States. We had planned to take a trip to the country as a family on January 27, but we had to cancel and these tickets are non-refundable. This is something that has put pressure on our family and I hope others don’t have to go through something like this.
