While they were remodeling their house they found a great treasure and they will become millionaires after auctioning the gold coins, minted between 1610 and 1727.
A couple was remodeling their house when they found a ceramic container that protected a great treasure: 264 gold coins that will be auctioned and could cost around 290 thousand dollars.
They were making repairs to their property in Ellerby, a small town in North Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. It was then that they discovered the lot that will be auctioned on October 7, as reported by the London auction house. Spink & Son.
A statement sent to USAToday ensures that the coins date from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is one of the largest reserves of this type of coin ever discovered in the area.
But what is the value of this treasure?
The cup that contained them was excavated from under the concrete and floorboards of the 300-year-old building. In terms of value in today’s money, the treasure is estimated at about $115,100.
However, auctioneers expect coins minted between 1610 and 1727 to sell for at least $290,000.
A document accompanied the vessel, specifying that the cup belonged to Joseph and Sarah Fernley-Maisters, who married in 1694. They were probably the most influential merchant family in the city from the late 16th to the 18th century.
The Maisters traded as importers and exporters of iron ore, timber and coal from the Baltic. Several generations were members of Parliament in the early 18th century.”says the auction house.
He also claims that the coins found were of English origin, although there was also a coin from Brazil that experts believe came into circulation in England in the 1720s.
“This is a wonderful and truly unexpected find in such an inconspicuous place,” said Spink’s auctioneer, Gregory Edmund and play RT.
And he concluded: “It is an enormous privilege to share this wonderful find and explore this treasure for the benefit of future generations.”
