Several years have passed since high-performance athletes go through programs like “Exatlón” in Azteca. In these, the athletes seek to have greater exposure and recognition by the audience, as well as achieve economic remuneration.
In a report made by Millennium, point out the case of Yahel Castillo who decided to participate in the reality show “Exatlón”, which begins transmissions on September 26, for this reason Conade will no longer provide him with the scholarship of 33 thousand pesos per month to which he is creditor for his fourth place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the synchronized trampoline test, in the pair with Juan Celaya.
There is a clause in which athletes may not be part of any media event that harms their preparation. In this 2022 Castillo will not be competing, however in 2023 he will have a very active sports agenda, among which competitions are mentioned in events such as: Central American and Caribbean Games, Pan American Games, World Championship and World Series. Therefore, by breaking this condition, the athlete is left out of the resources that Conade would allocate to Castillo. He will be able to regain support by returning to compete, and achieve results that put him on the podium.
The economic stimulus offered by television may be the main motivation to carry out this type of project, on the other hand there are other athletes who reject this proposal by the large Mexican television stations.
Millennium points out that Azteca looked for the gymnast Alexa Morenowho in 2018 was allegedly made an offer of about half a million pesos to participate for two weeks, however, the Baja Californian rejected it and dedicated herself to preparing for the Doha World Championship, in that tournament she achieved bronze.
Contrary to this is the case of Rommel Pacheco, since he was part of the cast of “Exatlón” prior to the Tokyo Olympics, however, Conade did not suspend his scholarship for 45 thousand pesos. He even kept this for him when he carried out a political campaign, for which he achieved a federal deputation for the PAN of Yucatan, a fault that would cost him the loss of the scholarship.
However, the list continues to grow and this includes active and retired athletes, so this controversy will continue to gain notoriety in the face of major sports tournaments.
