The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders has already been released where Cillian Murphy plays Thomas Shelby.
In 2013 the series premiered Peaky Blinders which is about a peculiar family of mobsters who lives in Birmingham at the beginning of the 20th century. Its success is so tremendous that it even caught the lead actor off guard. Cillian Murphy. This was revealed in a recent interview with ew:
“I like that you said it was 100 percent word of mouth, because that’s true. We were a small program on BBC Two and the BBC doesn’t spend a lot of money on advertising. For me, it was when we went to the season 3 premiere in Birmingham and there were thousands of people there and they were dressed as Peaky Blinders. Obviously, it’s about that city and it’s from there, so it’s special, but at the same time, there were people from all over the world having a Peaky Blinders party and Peaky Blinder weddings and all these pop-up shops and bars. For me, between seasons 2 and 3 was really when it started to become this phenomenon.
The actor struggled to get the character:
Cillian Murphy I knew I wanted a role even if I had to work hard at the gym: “There was a slight hesitation because I had never really played that kind of physically imposing hyper-masculine character. In fact, she had probably interpreted quite the opposite up to this point. But I knew it was amazing material and I knew it was a gift and I just needed to convince them that I could do it and I could work on becoming this physically imposing character.”
The creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knightremember meeting with Cillian Murphy for the first time, after which he received a text message from the interpreter that said: Remember, I’m an actor. That person you just met is not the person who will show up on the first day.”
