A few days ago Disney + premiered ‘Unlimited’a docuseries led by Chris Hemsworth in which the actor himself discovered something that will change his life forever, since he suffers a marked genetic predisposition to end up suffering from Alzheimer’s. This has led the protagonist of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ to decide to put his career on hold.
you have to simplify
Apparently, Hemsworth has two copies of the APOE4 gene, which different studies have associated with a greater probability of having Alzheimer’s. Only one in four people has a copy of said gene, reducing to just between 2 and 3% is in the same position as the Marvel interpreter. That causes you to have between 8 and 10 times more chances of contracting that disease.
That has led to Hemsworth having decided to temporarily move away from the cinema to focus on his family, as he himself has announced in an interview with Vanity Fair:
It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off. And since we finished the show, I’ve been completing the things that I already had contracted for. Now, when the tour is over this week, I’m going home and I’m going to have some nice free time to simplify. Being with the children, being with my wife.
The actor admits that Disney offered him the chance to leave his diagnosis out of ‘Limitless’but he thought it appropriate to keep it because “if this is an motivator for people to take better care of themselves and also understand that there are steps you can take, then great“.
Mind you, Hemsworth has clarified that “It’s not that I handed in my resignation“, but has also made it clear that “If something is going to take me away from my family and my children, it has to be something positive, constructive and a collaborative experience.“.
