Hernández was taken out on a stretcher in the 27th minute after he tried to reach for the ball in a play, but in his effort to do so his knee got stuck on the grass.
“Forward Javier Hernández suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Hernández will undergo surgery on a date to be defined in order to begin the rehabilitation process,” the MLS club said in a statement.
The recovery time for an injury of this type is between five and nine months, so Hernández would miss the rest of the season in the United States.
