In these new regulations, political demonstrations are prohibited without the prior approval of the FIA, a situation that the Red Bull Racing driver spoke about, Sergio “Checo” Perez.
“We want to be ourselves and we want to be able to express ourselves the way we want to. We all have different views, different beliefs in religious ways. I understand the political side, but we should all be free to express ourselves however we want”, said the man from Guadalajara in an interview with the portal Speedcafe.com
He added that it is important to be able to express oneself in sport. “It is hard for me to think that they (the FIA) will be able to control what you can say or not say. That to me is not correct.”
Is FIA decision to have more control on the drivers was taken last December, after Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel spoke out against racism, political and environmental issues in the previous season.
Valtteri Bottas is another driver who disagreed in recent days with the FIA veto, and assured that they have the right to speak openly about any subject.
