The scramble continues on HBO Max. After the Warner Media platform announced its merger with Discovery+ for the next 2023 and began its savings plan with such surprising decisions as eliminating ‘Batgirl’ —already shot— from its release schedule, this time the large selection of animated productions has had to go through the sieve that will no longer see the light of day on the streaming service.

Between the row of titles whose production is still underway and it is planned to sell to other platforms is ‘Batman: Cape Crusader’; the spiritual daughter of the mythical ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ of the 90s produced by JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves and the legendary Bruce Timmresponsible for the brilliant ‘Batman: Mask of the Phantasm’ among many other DC animated gems.
The show, whose first season received the green light in May 2021, has not been the only victim. Together with him, Warner has decided to get rid of ‘Merry Little Batman’ —an action comedy centered on a six-year-old Damian Wayne—, the Looney Tunes movies ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up’ Y ‘Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical’the christmas special ‘Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story’ and the movie ‘The amazing world of Gumball’.
This maneuver comes after the company has modified its distribution window in streaming and has begun to remove original films from Warner Bros and series on HBO Max without prior notice. A practice that, it is hoped, stay active for a season while regulating the residual costs involved in maintaining these productions in their catalogue.
