American actor Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, his family reported in mid-February, just under a year after he retired from acting due to cognitive problems. Now his wife Emma Heming Willis makes a special request to the paparazzi.
Through a video shared on her Instagram account, Emma asked that the actor’s personal space be respected. The woman assured that it is necessary to provide a lot of education about people who live with conditions like her husband’s.
The 44-year-old model referred to an episode in which some photographers tried to talk to Bruce Willis, at a time when the actor was going to meet some friends for coffee.
“If you are someone who is caring for someone with dementia, you know how difficult and stressful it can be, just getting out into the world and safely navigating it, even even going out to buy a coffee. I see the headlines…and there is a video of my husband on the street, buying a coffee with some friends who did an outstanding job protecting him. And…” Emma was left with emotions and had to pause.
Continuing, explaining that it’s about awareness, she asked: “The photographers and video people who are trying to get those ‘scoops’ on my husband out and about: save your space (…) I know this is your job, but save your space“.
He also added: “To the people in the video, please don’t yell at my husband, don’t ask him how he is, or whatever… Just don’t, okay? Give him space allow our family or whoever is with him to take him from point A to point B, safely”, concluded the model, referring to the context in which the photos of Bruce were taken a few days ago.
Emma also asked in a text that she wrote at the bottom of the publication if specialists or caregivers of people with dementia have advice that could help her in this process that she is going through with Willis
“To other caregivers or dementia care specialists navigating this world… Any tips or suggestions on how to safely get your loved ones out into the world? Please share it below”wrote.
The 67-year-old actor was diagnosed in March 2022 with aphasia, a language disorder, but this year it was announced that the disease had advanced, triggering a type of dementia. “His condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia,” his five daughters, his wife Emma Heming Willis and his ex-wife Demi Moore, announced in a statement.
