Bruce Willis’s family is “cherishing every moment” he shares with the actor and is “praying for a Christmas miracle” as his mental abilities continue to decline.
In the months since the legendary actor retired from his Hollywood career, he and his ex-wife, Demi Moore, have grown even closer as his current wife, Emma Heming, tries to help him communicate.
The family announced last March that Willis, 67, suffered from aphasia, a disorder that affects a patient’s ability to speak and understand language.
Since then, his condition has worsened, a source close to the family told RadarOnline, so now they try to spend every moment they can together.
“They know it won’t be around forever,” the unnamed source said. “So they’re cherishing every moment.”
The source recounted how Moore “has been in constant contact with Bruce and Emma. She takes every opportunity she can to spend time with him. If he’s not there, she’s making phone calls so Bruce can hear her voice.”
Bruce’s extended family is currently enjoying a vacation in Idaho, as they do every year. Willis’s daughter with Moore, Tallulah, 28, recently shared a photo of her hugging her mother while her father was looking closely at Demi’s dog, Pilaf.
“It was always a special moment,” the source said. “The family traditions they loved continued, like their sleepovers and game nights.”
He added that Demi and Emma have also grown closer as they work together to help the actor.
“Bruce can’t say much, and he doesn’t seem like he’s picking up much of what others are saying. So Emma has really been the voice and communicator for him. There are days when you see glimpses of the old Bruce, but they’re brief and distant each other. It seems like he’s getting further and further away from them and it breaks their hearts. The girls can’t imagine Christmas without Bruce. It’s been painful to watch him deteriorate. The older girls miss the old Bruce, the one who used to tease them about their boyfriends and give them unsolicited advice. All they can do is tell him they love him and pray for a Christmas miracle,” he said.
The family seems to be enjoying all the time they spend with the actor, his daughters Tallulah and Scout shared photos of the whole family together.
In her post this week, Tallulah wrote how much she loves her parents, while Scout shared photos of Bruce, hugging Pilaf tenderly, sitting at the table with Tallulah and his wife, Emma.
Another image showed Bruce tenderly holding Emma’s hand as they sat next to each other at the table.
Bruce married Emma in 2009 and they have two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn. The “Die Hard” star was previously married to Moore, from 1987 to 2000, and they share three daughters: Rumer, Tallulah and Scout.
Earlier this year, Bruce’s family revealed that the German native would be retiring from acting due to his diagnosis of aphasia.
“To the amazing supporters of Bruce, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is affecting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is moving away of the career that has meant so much to him. This is a truly challenging time for our family and we are so grateful for your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit and we wanted to let his fans know because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that,” they wrote.
