One of the most anticipated releases of 2022 is ‘The Whale’, the new Darren Aronofsky project starring an unrecognizable Brendan Fraser. The film has celebrated its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and had a great reception that moved even Fraser himself.
expected return
‘The Whale’ is Darren Aronofsky’s return to the big screen since 2017, when he premiered ‘Mother!’. The film had its world premiere last Sunday at the Venice International Film Festival and the result was absolutely triumphant. Once the projection is over, the public stood up and gave him a seven-minute ovation.
brendan fraserthe absolute protagonist of the tape, he received the applause visibly moved when Aronofsky gave him a hug to celebrate the extraordinary moment. Undoubtedly, a great achievement for the actor in which he returns through the big door to the cinema in a leading role (the last one was in 2013 with ‘Desperate Escape’).
The celebrated film is a psychological drama about an obese English teacher (Fraser) trying to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter. A story of redemption whose cast completes Sadie Sink (‘Stranger Things’), Samantha Morton (‘The Walking Dead’), Hong Chau (‘Watchmen’) and Ty Simpkins (‘Iron Man 3’).
The first reviews of the film are unanimous regarding the spectacular performance of Fraser, who defines his role as “the biggest challenge” of his career and as “the most heroic man he’s ever played because his superpower is looking for the good in others and bringing it out.”
The great reception of the film in Venice only makes us more eager to see the latest collaboration between Aronofsky and Fraser, produced by A24. Unfortunately, at the moment there is no official release date in Spain, although in the US it will hit the screens on December 9.
