One of the most commented controversies of season 13 of ‘La que se avecina’ was in relation to the character of Miren Ibarguren and her “fat suit” (fatsuit). The actress understands the criticism but considers that they arrived before being able to assess the global approach of the character.

In the previous season of ‘La que se avecina’, one of the most criticized aspects was Yoli’s weight gain treatmentwho had gained weight due to depression in this new batch of episodes of the comedy created by the Caballero brothers.
Apparently, this subplot was introduced to hide Miren Ibarguren’s pregnancy in real life and they decided that the actress would wear a “fat suit” to bring the character to life. This only aggravated the criticism of this plot line, accusing the series of fatophobia.
In a recent interview with Cinemanía, Ibarguren stated that he believes that the criticisms came before being able to see how the plot evolves in the series and compares it with the case of Brendan Fraser in ‘The Whale’:
I understand that people are bothered by certain things in fiction, and they are within their rights to complain. In fact, there is always something to be learned from all complaints. Of course, the intention of the series has never been to hurt anyone. You simply work on the characters and bring them to life by giving them actions and moments so that you can follow the plot.
I think the criticism came early, because in the case of Yoli’s character, the plot has a positive ending, since she accepts her body as it is, and goes to live with her best friend, happily. I don’t know if these criticisms have to do with the fact that it was done in a comedy tone. I do not know if ‘The whale (The Whale)’where Brendan Fraser also uses prosthetics, would receive the same criticism.
