With ‘Possessor’ (2020), Brandon Cronenberg He deserved to be compared to his father, the master of body terror David Cronenberg. The film was presented at the Sundance Film Festival presenting a grotesque science fiction universe that now has continuity in his latest work, ‘Infinity Pool’, which seems to follow the same schemes as the previous one, this time with a more stellar cast.
Body horror thriller in a resort
‘Infinity Pool’ stars Alexander Skarsgard and Cleopatra Coleman as a couple on vacation on the tourist island of La Tolqa who, thanks to mia goth, they discover a seductive and violent subculture beyond the walls of the complex. The cast includes Khalil Lespert, Thomas Kretschmann, Amanda Brugel, Caroline Boulton, and John Ralston. Cronenberg also writes the film’s script. Karim Hussainwho was in ‘Possessor,’ returns as cinematographer.

While staying at a secluded island resort, James and Em enjoy the perfect vacation of pristine beaches, exceptional staff, and soaking up the sun. But led by the alluring and mysterious Gabi, they venture off the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and unspeakable horror. A tragic accident leaves them faced with a zero-tolerance policy for cimre: either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die in their place.
The MPA gave an early version of “Infinity Pool” an NC-17 rating earlier this year, and the film was eventually re-edited for an R rating. But even so, Brandon Cronenberg’s latest seems pretty visceral and explicit. The film hits theaters on January 27 after opening at Sundance 2023..
