On August 5, a ten-year-old boy from Oklahoma, United States, became his mother’s hero by rescuing her after suffering a seizure while swimming in a pool.
According to good morning americathe home security camera captured the moment Gavin Keeney jumped into the family pool to save his mother, Lori Keeney, who began having seizures due to epilepsy.
In the video footage Gavin can be seen diving into the pool and once he reaches his mother, he keeps her head above the water until he manages to carry her to the stairs, where his father arrives to help him pull her out of the pool.
[Gavin] I had just gotten out of the pool and had a seizure. I was scared more than ever.
– Lori Keeney
Lori said she has seizures almost daily and Gavin often steps in to help. However, this is the first time that she was able to see her son take care of her during a seizure.
Really amazing thing to watch as I normally don’t get to see him in action and what he does after I have a seizure. This is the first time I was really able to see it just because of the security cameras. I’m so proud of him, but it was also hard to watch.
The boy’s heroic and quick response was praised by the county Police Department, who made him an honorary member of the Enos/Cardinal Cove Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition, he received a Saving a Life plaque for his quick thinking. In fact, it’s the second plaque Gavin has received, since last year he also saved his mother’s life when she started choking on her food.
