July 27, 2021. Bob Odenkirk, dressed as Saul Goodman, is recording one of the key scenes of the last season from ‘Better Call Saul’ when he puts his hand to his chest and falls dead to the ground. “It was a scary day for all of us. I really left, everything turned gray. I thought it was over,” he comments on the season six Blu-Ray, along with a twist: in the event of a fatal outcome, he would have liked someone else to take his place.
A good man
Although at first there was talk of a minimal heart attack (in fact, he returned to work in September), the truth is that he was without a pulse for several minutes until they managed to bring him back to life. And his greatest sorrow when he found out what had happened was… That they would not have continued the series without him!
They would have stopped the series if he hadn’t been able to. They wouldn’t have tried to follow, which makes me feel bad. If that had happened, I would have liked another actor to play him. Just to tell the story they had written. He wouldn’t have been great but he would have been better than nothing.
Now that Odenkirk is done for good (for now, at least) with Saul Goodman, is already preparing a new series, ‘Straight man’, based on the book by Richard Russo, for AMC , a movie, ‘Worlds apart’, and the eternal promise of ‘Nobody 2’. If someone told you to take it easy after your heart attack, it cannot be said that he paid much attention to it. Genius and figure.
