In an unexpected turn of events, the hierarchy of the upper echelons of the almighty Disney has changed again. the seat of CEO of the company, occupied until now by Bob Chapek, who held the position since last 2020, has a new owner; and that is none other than the former CEO of House of Mouse, Bob Iger.
The return of the CEO
The news spread last Sunday, when Iger sent an internal communication announcing the replacement to employees and its immediate application. A note to which the American media have already thrown their hands on and which starts with a paragraph as clear and concise as it is meaningful.
“It is with an incredible sense of gratitude and humility – and, I must admit, a bit of wonder – that I write to you this afternoon with the news that I am returning to The Walt Disney Company as CEO.”
Bob Iger’s departure from the multinational materialized in 2020 coinciding with the start of the pandemic, opening the way for a Chapek whose first decisions as CEO raised some suspicion between investors and industry members. However, the Disney board of directors decided to renew his contract last June for three more years, although poor financial results of the last quarter of the fiscal year — including streaming problems — they have been able to with him.
Iger, promoter of the current Disney model, continued his letter referring to the complicated situation of the three years prior to his return, but throwing a halo of optimism.
“I know this company has asked a lot of you over the past three years, and those times continue to be quite challenging, but as you’ve heard me say before, I’m an optimist, and if I’ve learned anything from my years at Disney, it’s that even facing to uncertainty—perhaps especially in coping with uncertainty—our employees and team members achieve the impossible.”
