‘Black Adam’ has swept the box office in the United States, breaking the record for the best opening for a film starring Dwayne Johnson alone -come on, the films of the ‘Fast & Furious’ saga in which he has participated are left out- by adding $67 million during its first weekend. And the figure could still grow a little more when the final data is known tomorrow.
The figure is both a positive and a slight disappointment, as last week’s forecasts pegged around 75 million, but cold critical reception pushed estimates down to 60. It has finally hit the midway point and The question now is to know how his endurance will be in successive weeks.
In addition, ‘Black Adam’ has added another 73 million at the international box office, bringing its opening weekend total to 140 million. Not a bad number at all, but not impressive either. Keep in mind that it cost $200 million and “The Batman” made $248.5 million during the same period just a few months ago.
All in all, ‘Black Adam’ is leaving the public with a much better taste in the mouth than the critics, to the point that it currently has 90% positive ratings from viewers on Rottentomatoes. That places her as DC’s highest rated movie in over a decade -the last to reach that percentage was ‘The Dark Knight: The Legend Rises’-, surpassing ‘Joker’ and ‘The Batman’.
