It is quite common for many great manga artists to start their drawing careers as assistants to other masters of the medium. Eichiro Oda and Masashi Kishimoto were assistants back in the day before they could launch their own series, and Tatsuya Endothe creator of ‘Spy x Family’, actually had a very long career as an assistant before launching into creating his own serialized manga.
From assistant to star author
A few days ago it went on sale ‘SPY x FAMILY Official Fanbook: EYES ONLY‘, an official book full of curiosities about ‘Spy x Family‘. Inside the book it has been possible to see illustrations, character sheets, details about the world in which the anime is set… and also more information about its creator, Tatsuya Endo.
Despite spending two decades publishing self-contained stories and some small series that did not finish raising its head, this is Endo’s first great series, and ‘Spy x Family’ has taken the bull by the horns and the anime is already one of the great premieres of the season.
But before the Forgers came into his life, Endo had a very active career as a mangaka assistant, and thanks to ‘SPY X FAMILY: EYES ONLY’ it has been confirmed that he has worked on some of the most powerful series in recent years. .

As confirmed in the art book, Endo worked as an assistant for Hajime Isayama in ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’, Kaneshiro Muneyuki and Nomura Yuusuke in ‘Blue Lock’ and for Tatsuki Fujimoto in ‘Fire Punch’. He was also an assistant Kazue Katothe creator of ‘Blue Exorcist’, who along with Isayama congratulated Endo on the success of ‘Spy x Family’ by drawing the Forger family in his style.
For now the book is only for sale in Japan, but hopefully with what is sweeping the anime some publisher decides to distribute it internationally. Meanwhile, the new chapters of ‘Spy x Family‘ can be seen every Saturday in simulcast through Crunchyroll.
