In our retro review we bring Batman Returns, a film that marked its distance from the previous film, thanks to the unmistakable stamp of Tim Burton
After the success that Batman represented in 1989, Tim Burton returned to the director’s chair in 1992 for a second Batman film, which unlike the previous installment, both the plot and the photography were characterized by their darkness. Now we are talking about Batman Returns whose retro review we present below.

Michael Keaton returned to don the caped crusader mantle, alternating with Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer in the antagonistic roles, as well as Christopher Walken as a crooked businessman with a hometown facade.
Three years have passed since Gotham City got rid of Joker’s crimes, but this time two intriguing characters arrive: the sinister Oswald Cobblepott, better known as Penguin, who behind his political desire to rule Gotham hides evil interests, and the seductive Catwoman, who will move the mat to the Dark Knight.
Wounds as the origin of evil
One of the characteristics that define the plot of this film is the number of wounds that do not heal. While Bruce Wayne continues his fight against crime, Oswald Cobblepott does not forgive the contempt of society as well as the rejection and abandonment of his parents.
For his part, Max Shreck, whose hunger for power seems to be insatiable, manages to wound a defenseless Selina Kyle, who, thanks to her wicked boss, is marked as Catwoman, a figure as seductive as she is intriguing.
With Christmas as the time to qualify this story, Burton manages to print his stamp as a filmmaker, compared to the first film of the character created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The darkness and a depressing panorama, which contrasts with the December holidays, work perfectly.
A vindicated hero?
In this sequel, Batman continues as a figure in the shadows, but as the plot develops, his mission in Gotham is called into question before society, something that the villains achieve, who show a leading strength before the vigilante of the chaotic city. .
But not only Batman is on trial, Bruce Wayne also shows his weak side before the seductive Selina Kyle, who, beyond being a villain, becomes an anti-heroine who puts his alliance with the Penguin into perspective, leaning towards the fight of the Batman.
The special effects deserve special mention, which this time show us more explosions, falls and impressive flights, as well as armies of penguins and bats that become a key factor in crucial scenes.

Batman Returns achieves those bittersweet contrasts between the fight between good and evil, as well as an outcome that you will love or hate, but you will not be able to be indifferent to it.
