For more than a decade, ‘the Sixth Night’ has positioned itself as one of the reference programs in the political information field of our country, reaching average audience of 1.5 million viewers and a 12% share on Saturday nights in 2015. Now, twelve years after its debut, Atresmedia has decided to give the format a necessary facelift.
Of bumps and conversations
As reported by the Bluper medium, the space will be renamed ‘laSexta Explains’ and will reformulate its bases opting for the rotation of its collaborators, who will become experts in current affairs which will be covered each week. Without a doubt, a great success if we take into account the current dynamics of the program in which the same faces give their vehement opinions on different topics weekend after weekend.
For his part, José Yélamo, who took over from Iñaki López —now in ‘Better late’—, will continue in front of a space that would align with ‘the Sixth Key’more focused on the explanation and analysis focused on data than on the tense and risque debate that ended up becoming the leitmotif of ‘laSexta Noche’.
The reasons that have prompted Atresmedia to modify what was once one of its banners could be closely linked to audience losses suffered in recent months. Without going any further, in the past months of July and August, data of 4.5% and 3.8% of share respectively were registered -about 328,000 and 246,000 viewers-.
Furthermore, the maneuver could try to weather the storm “FerrerasGate”which revealed audios of the channel’s director having conversations with Commissioner Villarejo and admitting the publication of information of dubious veracity about the Podemos political party provided by Eduardo Inda, a regular contributor to ‘Al Rojo Vivo’ and the now-old ‘laSexta Noche’ .
