The winning goal for the “Águilas” of America was scored by Alejandro Zendejas at 60′.
In the game played at the Akron stadium in Guadalajara, in stoppage time for the first half, América saved twice with a couple of shots that went just wide of the goal, the first from Roberto Alvarado, at 45+1, and the another from ‘Pocho’ Guzmán, at 45+3.
The winning goal for América fell in the 60th minute when Zendejas finished with a powerful left-footed shot inside the area after receiving a pass from Chile’s Diego Valdés.
América came close to extending their lead in the 75th minute with a header from Israel Reyes, but the ball hit the crossbar.
The key will be resolved on Sunday when the “Águilas” of America are local at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
In the other semifinal, Monterrey and Tigres UANL drew 0-0 on Wednesday in the series that will be decided on Saturday.
