the mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu currently promotes “Bard, false chronicle of a few truths”a film with which he returned to film in his country of origin but which received mixed reviews after its first screening at the Venice Film Festival, partly because of its three-hour duration. For its current exhibition in cinemas, Iñárritu eliminated 22 minutes of the filmand now explained the reason for that edit.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Alejandro commented that there were several factors that caused the first version of the film to be so long: “I finished the film just two days before going to Venice, so I never got a chance to see it with an audience. The first time I saw her with an audience was there. So it was very clear to me at that moment, in front of two thousand people, that I had the opportunity, without affecting the essence of the film, to make the same film but “thinner”. I felt like I could do some tighter scenes and get to the point faster, without sacrificing anything.”
Although Iñárritu is satisfied with the changes he made, he pointed out that a film is never quite finished.: “For me, editing is an endless process that you can play with, especially with this film that is so open. I would have loved to have even more time, but I couldn’t. You have to release the film due to a festival date or scheduled premiere. Anyway, I was very happy that I was able to feel that and add another couple of weeks of work. It was very clear and easy for me to come to this new version, which I am very happy with.” Some critics have mentioned that next year “Bard” could get some award nominations Oscar; In the meantime, it will be released in Netflix on December 16.
