“Alcaraz is the first tennis player confirmed for the next edition of the tournament,” the organization said in a statement.
The 19-year-old Spanish tennis player had won his first Barcelona Tournament title last year by beating his compatriot Pablo Carreño in the final by a resounding 6-3, 6-2.
“Carlos Alcaraz is a unique player, with a lot of charisma and who, in addition, has fun on the court. He has exceptional conditions to be able to dominate the point against any rival and that makes him different from any other player,” said the sports director of the Tournament, David Ferrer, quoted in the statement.
“And we are talking about a world number one who was the youngest in history to do so. He still has a whole career ahead of him to continue improving and developing as a player. He will be the great dominator of the circuit for the next ten years, without no doubt,” added Ferrer.
