Eight years have passed since Adam Wingard premiered what I not only consider his best film, but also one of my go-to titles since I was able to enjoy it at a Sitges screening that I remember almost as a cathartic experience: that 80s action revival starring Dan Stevens and released under the title of ‘The Guest’.

Since then, the idea of a sequel has been haunting the dreams of fans of the 2014 title who, earlier this year, got a pleasant surprise in the form of a fake soundtrack. On April’s Fools Day, Wingard released an album —or rather great album— entitled ‘The Guest II: Original Soundtrack’ with 12 tracks composed by different artists to the beat of a synthesizer that would dress the hypothetical return of David to the big screen.
But ultimately, it seems that what started as a joke has brought the director and his main screenwriter Simon Barrett into a “creative headspace” in which they are thinking about how to outline a second part of the feature film. This is what Wingard himself has told in an interview with Empire.
“We pushed Simon so much [Barrett] like me to a creative mind space. We’re talking about developing a potential sequel as a real project. [A Dan Stevens] would love to do it. Maybe the most interesting thing isn’t to do a sequel to ‘The Guest,’ maybe it’s to do a miniseries, something we can fully commit to.”
Adam Wingard considers that, ‘The Guest’ “It’s probably my favorite movie I’ve ever done. I think it’s the one I was able to project the most of myself into”. Well, whether it’s in the form of a feature or a miniseries, I can’t wait to see it materialized the return of Stevens’ mysterious and charismatic super-soldier who, by the way, will meet the director in ‘Godzilla vs. Kong 2’. It seems that the stars are aligning for ‘The Guest II’ to become a reality.
