Three years have passed since the brothers Ben and Joshua Safdie they gave us the enormous ‘Diamonds in the rough’; a suffocating gem in the key of a thriller that, in addition to getting on our nerves with his prodigious tension management and forceful formal treatment, revealed to us the best Adam Sandler we could imagine.
In 2020, the actor and the filmmaking duo got together to put together a short film titled ‘Goldman v Silverman’, but this only fueled the hopes of to see the Safdies and Sandler once again working side by side on a feature film. Something that, it seems, is about to become a reality.
The skull trio returns
As reported by IndieWire, the people of Netflix has given the green light to the development of the new film of the trio of yorewhose details, for the moment, remain a mystery —although it could revolve around the world of sports card collecting—, and which will be part of the agreement between the interpreter and the streaming platform that was signed in 2014.
This collaboration is not the result of chance. Earlier this year, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sandler made it clear his admiration for the Safdies and their methodologyin addition to confirming that they are breaking stone with their new film.
“They’re working hard on it. Their work ethic is crazy. They’re always working, always writing, always thinking. I don’t know what I can tell you, but it’s going to be very exciting. It’s different. But I don’t want them to ever say, ‘What? What the hell did you tell them that for?’ So I’ll let them do the talking.
I adore these guys. I adore you. I am incredible filmmakers. Of course, I would die to work with them again because it’s a new feeling. But the funniest thing is when I said to the Safdies ‘Your future is very bright’, they didn’t want to talk about it. They were like, ‘I just like ‘Gems,’ man. They were very involved in it.”
At the moment the date on which we will be able to put our retinas on the tape is a mystery. I don’t know about you, but after seeing what the Safdies are capable of with ‘Good Time’ and ‘Diamonds in the Rough’, I I need it NOW.
