A few days ago we gave you details of La Mansión de la Fantasía, the luxurious and eccentric residence that the Colombian drug trafficker had Harold Mauricio Poveda Ortegabetter known as ‘El Conejo’, in the Desierto de los Leones, in Mexico City, which called attention for its size, but also for housing a zoo, a suspension bridge and even a sauna inside a cavern.
The house, which was seized by the authorities in 2008 and which had an investment of about $7,000,000 dollars, now it looks in ruins and in total abandonment, as we could see in some aerial and interior images captured by the cameras of the Mexican newspaper Milenio.
“Although it remains insured, it has not received maintenance for years. The main door is fastened with a chain and what was once a fine set of stables, today serves as a warehouse for what was insured by the then PGR (Attorney General of the Republic). Meters further on, you can see the cages where wild animals lived, you can also see the fiberglass figures of a hippopotamus and a crocodile that once adorned a pond,” reported the aforementioned newspaper, while showing some aspects of the place.
As with the green areas, the main house, known as Valentina and built with wood and volcanic rock, is also in the same deteriorated condition.
“Despite its carelessness, the succulent vestiges that once dressed it still lie inside. On the first level, large windows engraved with wood, a breakfast area and white armchairs. To the second level, a spiral staircase, a room with a bar and a bathroom with a luxurious wooden tub. On the third floor, the main bedroom stands out with a wooden base attached to the floor and a privileged view. From the air, you can clearly see the pool and jacuzzi located on one side of the complex that also has a sauna. On the other side, ‘El Conejo’ built his own table dance with a bar counter, a steel tube and four bathrooms”, narrates the Milenio reporter.
Inside the exotic home, ‘El Conejo’, considered one of the main cocaine suppliers of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel, was arrested on October 22, 2008, while celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday party.
In recent days, the feared drug trafficker made the news again because he burst into tears during his appearance for the trial of Genaro García Luna, but his tears were not of regret, but because he saw his spectacular home again, where he had lions, tigers , panthers, hippos and other exotic animals.
