Back in 2006 —how time flies—, Cliff Bleszinski’s magnificent ‘Gears of War’ revolutionized the world of third-person shooters with its explosive battle between humans and Locust and, above all, with a cover system that continues to extend its legacy in today’s video game world. Now, on its 16th anniversary, the prolific franchise will broaden its horizons on the small screen.
The Locust are coming to Netflix
After months of tough negotiations, Netflix has finished taking the cat to the water to ally with The Coalition, the developer in charge of the saga since 2015, when the Ultimate Edition of the first ‘Gears’ was published. Together, they have drawn up an ambitious plan with two complementary projectsalthough very different from each other.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming platform plans to adapt the adventures of Marcus Fenix and company’s Delta Squad in a live-action feature film to be followed by an animated series for adults. If everything goes well, it is not ruled out that the project will continue to expand with new titles yet to be determined.
Today’s date it is unknown which filmmakers, producers and performers will be part of the teams that they will have in their hands the arduous task of reinterpreting ‘Gears of War’ to a non-playable narrative; a challenge that Hollywood has been trying to face since 2007 in a process in which leading companies such as Universal have been involved.
To find out how the play went to the Big N there is still a long time to waitbut we will be aware of any news that may arise in this regard.
