The death of the actor was confirmed last Friday. Robbie Coltrane. The British interpreter was 72 years old, and had spent the last two suffering from illness. it goes like this one of those memorable British performers who won the affection of the public thanks to sagas like ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘James Bond’.
But his contribution did not end there, with series like ‘Crackers‘ Giving him all the prestige that would later lead to such sagas, as well as becoming a celebrity in British households. That series earned him three consecutive BAFTA awards, something that very few actors have achieved. Unfortunately, that series is not streaming to retrieve it, but these are three films in which he left his mark.
‘Mona Lisa’ (1986)
Address: Neil Jordan. Distribution: Bob Hoskins, Michael Caine, Cathy Tyson, Robbie Coltrane, Zoe Nathenson.
Following various guest appearances and minor roles, ‘Mona Lisa’ gave her the supporting role class with enough exposure and scope to stand out properly played. It was his case, since his career was notably propelled after this filmleading him to roles like ‘Cracker’.
Here he appears in a formidable neo-noir film, an exquisite noir thriller with mafias and prostitution directed by Neil Jordan and with a Bob Hoskins in a particularly sweet moment (he was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his role). Smart movie as well as emotionalwith fabulous atmospheres and characters that nail the exercise in style that the director is looking for.

‘Goldeye’ (1995)
Address: Martin Campbell. Distribution: Pierce Brosnan, Famke Janssen, Izabella Scorupco, Sean Bean, Judi Dench, Robbie Coltrane.
From time to time in the different stages of James Bond characters appear effective enough to become fairly recurrent as long as the main actor persists (Judi Dench as a great example). Coltrane earned the honor appearing in two Brosnan-era films.
He gave life to Dmitrovich Zukovsky, one of those classic dubious allies with whom Bond came across, being in ‘Goldeneye’ the film where he really captivates and surprises you. A good note of color for an overwhelming, dazzling and brilliant film. One of the best in the franchise definitely.

‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ (‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’, 2004)
Address: Alfonso Cuaron. Distribution: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, David Thewlis, Michael Gambon, Robbie Coltrane.
For many inside and outside the British Isles, Coltrane’s name will forever be associated with the character of Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series. His comic sensibilities he knew how to bring out the light and the good-natured side of this fundamental character in the saga, being a grateful constant throughout it.
Of all the films, perhaps the one that has allowed him to do things with the character the most is the third, not only for having a more active role in the plot than in the rest, but also for the greater dramatic possibilities that said plot provides him. Coltrane is more than up to the task, and becomes one of the secret weapons of this great installment directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
