Choosing a name for a child is one of the most important decisions when you are a parent, since it is something that will accompany you throughout your life and that, in a way, will form part of your identity. But what happens when your naming choices are weird and even susceptible to becoming the target of ridicule. Since we want to avoid your son or daughter having to deal with jokes for this, we give you a list with the names you shouldn’t give your baby because they are weird.
It may be that your favorite character from a movie or series is Batman, Goku, Terminator, Sakura or Hermione, but that does not mean that it is a sufficient reason to name your baby that way.
We are aware of your freedom to name it as you wish. However, in the end, the one who will have to deal with possible pranks and jokes in bad taste is your daughter or son, something that could even reproach you at some point.
To avoid that bad time with your blessing, we suggest that you avoid choosing the Names that we will mention in the following paragraphs.
Names that you should not give your baby because they are rare and strange
Almost a year ago the Civil Registry in Mexico published a list with Names Forbidden, names that regularly appear in movies and series and that, despite being iconic and remembered, are not the most appropriate for a real-life person.
Several were the Names shown in that list, but here we will limit ourselves to mentioning only 10 that you should not put on your baby given its rarity:
- Cheyenne
- Batman
- Diodorus
- hermione
- Harry Potter
- Lady Di
- James Bond
- rocky
- Pocahontas
- Rambo
Others are added to this list, such as Facebook, Fulanito, Hitler, Iluminada, Marciana, Micheline, Telésforo, Twitter, Yahoo, among many others.
How to choose my baby’s name?
Just as the decision to call a child when they are small is important, we also know that choosing it is not an easy thing. That is why we suggest some tips that will help you with this choice:
- Look for inspiration, but without falling into fictitious names or that turn out to be funny. You can rely on the Inegi list of common names, on a book, on a historical figure or on a relative who represents a lot to you, for example.
- Make a list with the names chosen so far and begin to discard little by little.
- Say them out loud, along with the last names they will have, and listen to how they sound to see if you like the combination.
- Avoid names that are too difficult to pronounce or outlandish.
- It is worth taking into account names from other countries, although it is better that you start with those in your native language.
